Christmas Card Table Runner

If you’ve been saving Christmas cards for years, but have never really known what to do with them, this is the project for you. Pull out your Christmas card stash, and transform those cards into a festive runner for your table. Here’s how:

To make a Christmas card table runner, you will need:

  • Christmas cards
  • Scissors or a large circle punch
  • A sewing machine
  • Masking tape (optional)

What You Do:

Cut Circles Out of the Christmas Cards

Step 1: Cut circles out of the fronts of your Christmas cards. You can do this with a large circle punch, if you have one. If not, just trace around a drinking glass, and cut your circles out with a pair of scissors (that’s what I did).

Step 2: Spread your circles out in front of you, and arrange them in the order that you want them to appear in your runner.

Tape Guides

Step 3: Find the center of one of your circles; then, use masking tape to create guides on your sewing machines, so it will be easy to keep your stitches on center.

Step 4: Do a test run on a card scrap. Adjust your tension, until you’re happy with the results.

Stitch the Cards Together

Step 5: Stitch together all of your short rows (make sure the cards are overlapping slightly, so they stay together).

Step 6: Then, stitch all of your short rows together into long rows, and your table runner is ready to make its debut!

  1. SUPER CUTE idea! You could even do this with the kids birthday cards and make the table runner longer each year to use as a center piece each year for their birthday.
