Apple Pie Spice Recipe
Ingredients:
Small Batch (enough for one to three pies)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground allspice
Large Batch (just over 1/4 cup)
2 Tbsp + 2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 Tbsp + 1 tsp ground nutmeg
2 tsp ground allspice
What You Do:
Mix the spices together in a small bowl. Then, store your apple pie spice in an air-tight container. The large batch fits well in an empty spice jar or a quarter-pint canning jar.
Recipe Variation
Some apple pie spice mixes also include ground cardamom and ginger. If you’d like to include them in yours, add 1/4 tsp of each for the small batch, or 2 tsp of each for the large batch.
How to Use Your Apple Pie Spice
Most apple pie recipes call for between 1/2 tsp and 1-1/2 tsp of apple pie spice. When adding it to cake or muffin batter, start with 1/2 tsp. You can always add more next time, if you find the flavor isn’t strong enough for your tastes. Just a sprinkling should do when adding it to oatmeal, or hot beverages, like coffee. Experiment a bit, and you’re sure to stumble on some new fall favorites.
