Use Broken Concrete to Make a “Flagstone” Sidewalk

Flagstone-ish Sidewalk

This sidewalk runs along the side of my house and connects the front sidewalk to the backyard. It used to be concrete, but after more than 90 years of use, it was in bad shape and needed to be replaced.

We got a free pallet of flagstone through a promotion, but it was nowhere near enough for a new sidewalk. Not wanting to spring for more flagstone at $250 a pallet, we decided to break up the old concrete into flagstone-sized pieces, and to mix them in with the real flagstone. With all of the lichen and aging, they blended beautifully. See the first large “stone” in the picture. It’s concrete. Pretty convincing, eh?
