Snowangel - sometimes you do such a good job at cutting your budget, that you HAVE done all that you can. The only other thing you could do in that case is find a way to make some additional income. You can only stretch a dollar so far!!!

With losing my job last year, unemployment, SS and 401K, I almost broke even. Had to pay about $70 total.

I don't think taking SS early or at age 70 makes that much of a difference. The problem here is that the "threshold" used as to determine whether one's SS is taxed or not was set up in 1985 and stands at $25,000 for single and $32,000 for married was never indexed to reflect inflation and cost of li...
