Hi, frugal ones. I am whupped, as we Southerners like to say. Although I worked for this university before, everyone seems to think they should walk me all over the campus on hard, hot cement sidewalks to show me the sights. And then I spend hours cleaning and carrying loads of junk to the dumpster....

I defrost my little chest freezer, which is manual defrost, with a hair dryer. I take the food out and put it in a laundry basket and wrap it in a heavy quilt. Then throw some old towels in the bottom of the freezer, point the hair dryer at the sheets of ice, and the ice falls on the towels. It's a ...

I never see them for sale used any more. We have a small chest freezer that we organize with plastic baskets from the dollar store. It works out well for a small family. We have had it since about 1996.
