Re: Daily Check in Oct 23, 2015

Rinty, your cake sounds wonderful! And your children are blessed to have a mother and father who can and do help out so much. The repair guy showed up, tinkered with the washer, charged me $71 and it's still leaking. I put a call into the shop, but I doubt anything will get done until Monday. I am v...

Re: Daily Check in Oct 23, 2015

Good morning, frugal friends. I've been waiting since 7:30 a.m. for a call from the washer repairman to let me know he's on his way.

Other than that, we're having a routine sort of day. I need to make a loaf of bread for the weekend, but we're otherwise in good shape for food.

Re: October No Spend Challenge

I have 16 days and will have to be strict to make the planned 22 this month. Lately we have all been sleeping poorly/waking up with aches and pains, and so yesterday I bought memory foam toppers for all the beds. It was a bit spendy but worth it, as everyone slept well. Clem, I don't think anyone here sees you as crazy for taking care of those animals. You ought to get an award for doing a vital public service on your own dime. All those critters are getting a much better life because of you, plus you're taking care of your neighborhood by making sure the females c...

Re: October No Spend Challenge

It's been a trouble-free washer for the six or seven years we've owned it, and I'm hoping the repair won't be terribly expensive. We're just glad that the local appliance shop can come out so quickly. Back home, we had a choice of Sears or fix it yourself, and Sears would often not be able to get ou...

Re: October No Spend Challenge

Well, unplanned stuff came my way today. We've been using our gas fire every day, something we haven't done much before, and it suddenly occurred to me that we don't have a carbon monoxide detector in the house. So I checked online and found one at Ace Hardware, then drove up the street to the local...
