backyard advice

Post by delighted99 »

Our house has an 8 foot stretch of old garden space that is currently not used. Various weeds and grasses have grown into it. I would like to reclaim the space and repurpose it. Right now I am thinking I will sod it with grass in the spring. I have never done anything like this and might possibly hire someone to sod it.

My question is about prepping this space... I know I have to pull up whatever weeds I can. This area is just overgrown. Would it be enough to mow down the area, weed by hand, and then run the rototiller to it when it is time to lay down the sod?

My Hubby says to rototill it a couple of times, weed as well as you can.

The company putting down the sod should dig up the first few inches (not sure how many), level the area and then put down the sod. You will probably get rid of most if not all of the weeds in this process.

Thanks for that advice. Now just to get DH on board with hiring someone to do work. He is a big DIYer but he has very little time.
