Okay, thanks!

I don't think I've ever heard of local online auctions.

Everything but the house is a good one. That's my favorite. You look at auctions online, bid on the items you want, and get an email letting you know which items you won. You can either pay online or cash/check in person. You pick it up usually the day after the auction ends. You have to pick it up within a small time frame or it gets sent to the warehouse and you have to pay a lot extra (fees and ridiculously high shipping). So before you bid on anything, check out where and when pickup is to make sure you can do it. Sometimes an auction will be included in a list of auctions for our city, but pickup will be an hour away.

However, we've gotten great stuff this way. Lots of funky kitchenwares, a gossip bench, a couple steamer trunks, a library table from the 1800s.

Just wanted to mention to you both that you might want to seek out a Goodwill Outlet Center. Not a regular GW, but this is a distribution center. They sell everything very cheaply by the pound. My best friend, a total bargain shopper/collector goes there all of the time and gets wonderful things. They bring out new bins every 30 minutes or hour.

For example she got a Kitchen Aid mixer in perfect condition for $5. She got a staffordshire figurine for 25 cents. She generally will stay for several hours going through each cart as they bring it on the floor. It might be worth a trip to one for you both.
