This month I thought I would try a use up the pantry challenge. I don't really know how this works, but from what I gather a person tries to just stick to what is in the pantry and freezer for the month.
I know I will need to buy dairy and fruit each week, but as for the rest I will try and stick to using up what is in my pantry/freezers. Things definitely need a big clear out here as I have noticed things piling up considerably.
Anyone care to join in?

Re: Use Up the Pantry Challenge
A couple of things being used up in the pantry/fridge today.
The potatoes that Hubby picked are going to be part of our supper tonight as well as the last of the beans we picked a couple of nights ago.
I plan on freezing the remaining blueberries tonight as well. At least they will be out of the fridge and in the freezer safe and sound.
I have been giving the cat leftover bits and bobs of meat and plan on pulling out a turkey leg to use for this purpose. It is probably better for her than the treats we were buying and scraps (for the most part) are being put to good use.

Re: Use Up the Pantry Challenge
I really need to join. I have my new to me freezer stocked up, but I am having trouble breaking the habit of watching for sales. This will be a tough habit to get into, but one I need. Thanks for the challenge.
Re: Use Up the Pantry Challenge
I had used up all the cucumbers...but with a garden more were produced.
Used up the cherry tomatoes in the crisper.
Cut up the green peppers from the crisper and froze them. While this isn't really using up the pantry it is saving something from going bad.
Using up the last roast beef from the meat freezer. Should get a few meals from this.
Used up the last of the store bought potatoes yesterday.

Re: Use Up the Pantry Challenge
So, I am really finding that I have way too much in the way of meat in the meat freezer. Well not quite, I have way too much in the way of chicken so will have to make a few more chicken meals. I need to relook my menu and see what can be switched around.
Hopefully this challenge enables me to see what we can realistically go through in 3 or 4 months time, what we really like and make me look for new and interesting recipes to add to my cooking.

I know what you mean about about the freezer. Now that I have one, I need to be careful not to end up with it loaded. I have far more meat right now than I need for the month. I must say no to sales. This challenge is really good for me. Thanks again Jackielou for it.
