On The Rims October

Post by Jackielou »

I thought I would use a term that means being very cheap. My Scots Grandpa used it a great deal whenever he would visit us. So here's a tribute to you Grandpa.

Starting this month off well. It will be a no spend day here on the old homestead.

Jackie, I love hearing these types of expressions and where they came from - the heritage, etc.

I also had a no spend day today - hoping for same until Sunday when I buy some groceries at Save-A-Lot.

So yesterday was no spend, but today is grocery day. Spending happening.

This puts me at 2 no spend days this month so far. I am hoping to at least get 23 days of no spending and perhaps even meet lasts months achievement. Only time will tell.

I am happy to report that yesterday was a no spend day, and that today will be as well.

This brings me to 4 no spend days for this month.

Running on the rims means your tires are nearly gone here in the U.S. Boy, some days it feels like there's no rubber left between me and the road! :-D

Probably much the same meaning here in Canada. I believe/kind of remember Grandpa saying that at times during the depression they were so "skint that riding on the rims was necessary" I took that to mean, black belt frugal methods were needed and no extra cash outages.
