MJ, that was so sweet of you sending that old sewing machine on to a good home. You can't beat an old Singer! And yeah, in those days, if they could put a handle on something, they called it portable, even if you had to be a body builder to pick the thing up. :-D

I am on a break between work chores -- we don't really have a set schedule most days and just wait on work to walk in the doors or call us -- and have been making a list of suitable pet foods and supplies that are a little cheaper at Tractor Supply than at Chewy. In doing so, I had to read ingredients on all their foods. The rescue had Dora Kitty on Cat Chow Natural kibble and the ingredients just about made my hair stand up: it's full of corn and soybeans! No wonder her coat is so dull-looking, poor wee mite. I'm going to mix half the bag with Ollie's Purina Beyond, which has real meat as the main ingredient, to transition her and then feed her his food as her kibble. She still gets a little Fancy Feast pate twice a day to help build her up. She was just a baby herself when she had her kittens, so she has some catching up to do.

Anyhow, except for Temptations cat treats, I can save at least a dollar or two an item by ordering from Tractor Supply, or we might just hop over the state line and shop in person, if there's something else in that town DH wants to check out. There's an Aldi there and a really nice Home Depot store. Plus the sales tax is good bit lower in Georgia, so it's worth the little trip.

Update

Well I got the rhubarb jam made, and three bags of sliced rhubarb into the freezer. I actually got 7 jars of jam and three bags to freeze. More growing so I will need to pick again early next week and get that sorted before we go away for the reunion.

I need to pull out some blueberries and make a glazed pie and perhaps a crisp that can be frozen and I need to use up more applesauce this week as well. Hopefully things cool off a bit so I can get that done. If I can bake and freeze then we have desserts to last us for a bit.

The service guy came and now our landline is working once again. It seems the configuration in the box went a bit crazy and needed to be redone.

Did the usual Thursday household tasks along with some extra tidying in the sewing/craft room. Didn't get the labels made yet, but mainly that is because I have to crawl around on the floor and unplug the old desktop computer. I may give it a bit of a try once again to see if things have improved at all. Tomorrow will work well for that.

Off to get supper started, not that it is anything special just soup and sandwiches. Or in my case just a slice or two of bread to dip into the soup.

Clem, I do hope your sibling now realizes she needs to be in a safer place where she can get the care she needs.

I was wandering around the house again last night. I did go back to bed and get up at 8 but had to go back to bed. I was still so tired I couldn't see straight! I got up again at 10.

I spent the rest of the morning talking on FB Messenger to my little sister and a friend who was bored at work. My sister found me the Burda Dachshund Pattern that I have been ardently searching for since 1997!! I made a set of these dachshunds for my Doctor's kids when I lived in Peterborough, ON. When I moved back to Brandon, I loaned the pattern to a friend so they could use it to make some for their first grandchild. When I asked for it back? They swore they never had it and I doubt they even looked! UGH! So, all these years I have been searching facebook, eBay and Etsy. I finally found it on eBay and Ellen bought it for me! It came with two other patterns to make geese and sheep. All three patterns are brand new and burda patterns. The Dachshund pattern is great! It is a family of dachshunds and you can make the puppies snap on to Mum as if they are nursing. I didn't do that when I made them though. I did mix and match all the fabrics on the Mom, Dad and baby dachshunds for a genetic mix on all of them. My doc really liked that touch! I remember I took them to him in a animal carrying cardboard box they sold at the pet store. It's one of the best gifts I've given. Now? To get this place together enough that I feel I can make a mess again while sewing!! I'd like to make a set for Ellen (the sis who sent the patterns) for her grandson. I wouldn't stuff them though as just mailing them stuffed would cost a fortune! It cost her over $15 to send THREE PATTERNS!! That's craziness.

I am watching the hearings again this afternoon. This evening it is time to do laundry again. I was to be babysitting my lovely little Franki Boi and his cat, Cocoa, tomorrow but because his Grandma is in Palliative care, they had to call the trip off. So, I'll miss out on my puppy cuddles and his silliness. It's depressing but I defintely understand.

Yesterday, on our Mutual Aid Society Brandon Facebook Page, a girl was looking for a sewing machine she could borrow. I did her one better! A "friend" dumped her sewing machine here over 10 years ago for me to check to see if it worked. I never did check it and it's sat in my closet taking up space all that time. I GAVE it to her. I said I didn't know if it worked but because it was a Singer, she could get it all fixed up for less than $100 at our Singer Sewing Center. It was a portable but weighed at least 40 pounds. It had to be from the 1960s. It only had straight stitch and zig zag. She is getting into making First Nations Regalia and was wanting to make her first ever Jingle Dress. Her partner came and picked it up. He siad, "Yup, has to weigh around 40 pounds!" HE got it running for her and she cleaned it all up. BOY does it ever look nice!! Now I'm kinda sad I let it go but that's just my sewing machine envy! I already have two of my own at home. She posted a video of how it looks and runs. Looks great!! I don't know who was happier, her or me!! So great to get it to someone who will make use of it. As for the "friend?" I don't even know if they live in town anymore!

My big pot of baked beans i made yesterday turned out really nicely. I packaged up 5 containers of two servings each for the freezer. I'm working on what my next big cook will be. Supper tonight will be fried potatoes and eggs.

That's the skinny from around here!!

MJ
I am glad that the sewing machine cleaned up and works nicely for her and that you gave it away. I sometimes look at my two ordinary machines, one that can be used for quilting, the two overlock/sergers, and my embroidery machine and think that I could and should cut down on machines. But I have a dedicated room in my house.... If we move to an apartment things will probably change.

I hope so too. Her daughter should be here by the weekend and will stay until they get this done.

The assisted living facility is like 2 blocks from the hospital - if something happens - she will be there right away. They will take her to her appointments etc. She has so many.

Update - I had a very fun patio visit with a friend this afternoon and she thoroughly enjoyed the pandan chiffon cake I made. The recipe I used is from Malaysia and something a bit different. Because of all our heat, the cake rose very nicely. I used my mother’s trick of letting the eggs get to room temperature before beating up the meringue. I also added some cream of tartar.

Floridacatlover I am so relieved that you are improving day by day. Clem I am so sorry to hear about your sister. You are very good to your family.

I will say this once and once only. If any of you on the forum with my name and address: if you wish to watch any videos I take of my walks in the neighborhood, you can log into YouTube and search for my real name. These videos are too long to attach to Messenger. I didn’t even realize I created a YouTube channel and have no intentions of trying to generate any income from it. My hubby and I are comfortable with our work and government pensions. I just wanted a means of sharing the walks I have spoken of. The last visit was to the Indigenous Healing Centre on the grounds of Lakehead University. Jackie if this message is not abiding by the Forum guidelines, please feel free to delete it. You will not see me on the videos, only hear my voice.
