Like Maggie, I’m sort of living the high life now. Not exactly because I’m watching my budget on some items but if I want to go someplace I’m going to go. I’m I’ve paid my dues. I have no one to leave my money to who needs it and I’m going to enjoy this second chance at life.
Me too, Florida, me too! I am still saving like crazy but I want to have a little fun too. I signed up to get emails from a local travel company that does bus tours throughout the year and dang it, I'm going to do one per year! I enjoy travel but I don't like to drive - this is a good solution. I don't mind taking the bus - when my daughter lived in NYC I only visited her by bus and it was fine.

So far they only have casino trips scheduled and I hate casinos and gambling - so no - but they do other fun things - like an overnight to NYC for some sight seeing, dinner and and show (all inclusive) - and some other fun things like a day trip to Niagara Falls and Niagara On The Lake in Canada.

I have some debt for a variety of reasons as most of you know. (none of which is paying 280 for a phone bill, lol).

But I cannot imagine paying 280 for a phone bill to begin with, heck I am getting rid of my TV bill afer one month because that is driving me crazy. And I have downsized twice since retirement. While some of that was surely the inability to care for alarge house with my health conditions, just as much had to do with lowering my footprint and expenses in order to have as few bills as possible so that I could enjoy life on the amount I make.

I work with people who are in true poverty and a few of those have crippling debt. The kind they maynever get out of unless they declare bankruptcy and was mainly caused by issues out of their control. But that is very much not the norm, and they do their best. As for the rest..

My son recently took responsiblity for some credit card debt by getting a car (I guess it is called a title) loan and paying off three or four big credit cards. I would probably have told him not to do it, and I have told him if he ever cannot pay that 400 monthly (there was also still a car payment) to scream, literally in my direction immediately. But on some level Iam also really proud of him for taking on his own issues and dealing with them even if I wish he had dealt with them another way.

I guess it's all in one's perception - I make about one-eighth of that and I don't feel poor at all.

LOL I call that a "Butt on a bus trip" before Covid my friend and I would go on senior day trips, so fun.

Now, not only Covid, but her health, DH's health, so I don't see that happening for me for a long time.

Do the trips, have a great time.
