USDA Food Chart

An interesting article on Yahoo today about how they think people SHOULD spend their food budget vs. how they actually DO. I was a little surprised by a few items actually. I thought protein would be a larger portion of the recommended budget, for instance, given current prices. What do you think? The link to the pie chart is below: ... 277073.png

The first thing I thought of is that protein doesn't have to be meat. Eggs are way more expensive than they used to be, but 30 cents an egg, which is a serving, is still pretty cheap. Cheese prices are pretty good right now if you're just eating basic stuff. And then there's beans, lentils, quiona, and all kinds of high-protein, non-meat food.
