Clem, you need a break from your family/life for a small while. I realize all families have issues, but sometimes you just need to "step back" and let it go for a short while.
We went to the Apple farm/pumpkin patch today.....so much fun!!!! We ate at a family owned pizza sandwich shop first and then to the Apple farm, visited their petting zoo which was all baby farm animals, then pony rides, riding the tractor trolley to the orchard and pumpkin patch. Came home with good unpasteurized cider, local honey and enough of my lunch to have again for supper. It really was a really good day. Actually riding the trolley I told my daughters it looked like a magazine cover for Fall. Of course they had a gift shop and it was so busy, we didn't buy anything, like I told the girls ....we just had a yard sale, we don't need to buy anything else!
Tomorrow it is back to real life, sleeping in and then I really want to clean house and if not windy, rake some leaves. Might make some doughnuts to go with the cider. Or apple dumplings....they sold theirs for 5.00 each.
Off to see what everyone is up too.
Have a great evening all.

you are right JC. I especially don't want to hear about high school boyfriend issues.

Seriously? I can't remember my mom being so involved in something like that. But I guess times are different now. But then my mom had a tight leash on us.

No going out during the week unless school or church function and certainly no spending the night here and there!

My sisters and their daughters use this phrase whenever anyone mentions college for their daughter/granddaughter " Are you going to pay for it?"

It just sound so flippant. Especially after what my parents did for us. My oldest brother was working in a tomato field when the school principal came to tell him he had a college scholarship. Did my parents say - no - who is going to pay for the other expenses? No, they did what needed to be done to get him there. When my sister and I went to college, not a word was said about cost.

It just makes me sad to hear them say this in front of the girls. And the parents have professional jobs. I just hate to hear this kind of talk. Need more positive comments around the young people. I guess my sisters never "listened" to that message from the parents. I tell them things my parents said and its like they were living in another home!

I am so sorry it upset you Clem, but you are right to correct your family. They should be THRILLED their kids want further education and have goals.

Am I wrong to think that these little comments are harmful/hurtful.

At the same time I am so tempted to tell the girls - you don't need your parents to pay for your college. Don't let them hold you hostage!! Be Free!!
