Yes I buy that pancake mix, I also buy their buttermilk and use it instead of water. I also use it to make buttermilk biscuits. I love my Aldi's.

just back from supper at dads, beef stew, breaded tomatoes, salad and biscuits...it was so good. The leftover stew is going to be the basis for veg soup later this week. I am determined o get every bit of taste and value out of the food I buy. I could just eat beef stew warmed over but dad doesn't eat leftovers...I have to make them into something else.

I think we got between 6 to 8 inches of snow today, it looks real pretty , plowing and shoveling are done for now, but with this wind there is some drifting already.
So far my satellite is still hanging in so an evening of mindless TV watching.

Kitty, do you think he could really tell if the beef stew were frozen and heated again? I make a big batch of it when I cook where I don't have to do it again and I can't tell the difference. When Mr. B and I first started to see each other that is one of the first things he told me that he "didn't eat leftovers that he could tell the difference". Well he ranted about my beef stew and he didn't see me put it in the Ninja frozen. LOL I made a fresh pan of cornbread to serve with it and he thought it had all been done while he was out.

I have heard this story so often. My daddy would not drink 2% milk. He called it blue John and swore he could tell the difference. My ever thrifty mother bought two percent milk and poured it into the same gallon milk container for years and he drank it happily not knowing the difference.

A friend of mine in Chicago married into a large Italian family. Her husband threw a fit when she bought grated parmesan cheese. The only parmesan cheese that was fit to eat was fresh grated. He had eaten it that way for years and knew what he was talking about. So she would empty a Kraft grated parmesan container into a tupperware she had marked grated parmesan and he would always ask her wasn't she happier with the quality of the pasta served with fresh grated cheese. Again - ate it happily for years.

So often it is prejudice not taste.

I think it is in our minds sometimes. When my kids were growing up they drink milk like it was going out of style. We were spending a $100.00 a week for groceries back in the late 60's. They would gag if they drank powdered milk even tho, DH and I thought chilled it didn't taste that bad. I did the same thing, bought me a gallon of whole milk and mixed it half and half until they left home and they never knew the difference. Those two could go through 5 gallons a week, but it must have been good for them for they both have beautiful teeth.

Mr. B thinks I'm a wonderful cook and I've tricked him on several frozen leftovers that he had no idea that they had been frozen. Baked sweet potatoes are a staple in my freezer and he said he could tell the difference on those, but he can't. LOL He didn't realize that he could freeze buttermilk. I will buy a quart to make cornbread and it takes me awhile to go through it. Well, when he bought it he would throw it out after a week and I have finally got him to freezing it in cup containers and when he gets ready to make bread he can take it out a couple days ahead of time and defrosts it in the fridge. I can't stand to waste food.

Same here. I hate food waste, even though I am not as good about it as I should be.
