Do you own or would you buy an electric car?

Not getting one in the near future. If our energy were derived primarily from a combination of either nuclear, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal instead of coal it'd be a different story.

Electric cars are cornerstone of the effort to reduce the need for petroleum. If you own an electric car, are you happy with it? If you don't own one, what are the criteria you need in order to buy one?

I don't own an electric car, but if golf carts were made street legal here, I would drive one a lot. Because we are faced with possible evacuations of hundreds of miles, current electric cars do not meet the distance criteria.

I would actually but they are around 20% dearer than a "real" car and mine doesn't have that many miles on it that it needs replacing, neither does DHs. But there are so many charging points around now it would certainly be a consideration when we do need another car

An electric car would be perfect for me. I drive a small car and don't go long distances. DH is talking about getting one, but I expect to get many more years out of my Honda. He likes a bigger sedan because he's a foot taller than me and drives more, so he likes the extra comfort. So it won't be soon, but probably my next car will be electric.
