I know that I am so lucky, I was born into a time and place where I I could out of HS, have a roommate, my best friend, and we could work a part time job at minumn wage, ($1.65 an hour) pay for JR Coll rent ect We also knew that if 'worse came to worse, we could each move home, or at least go by for a meal, Neither of us ever needed to do that, but we could have.

I don't know kids make it these days.

First 2 paragraphs in the article

"I once lost a whole truck over a few hundred bucks. It had been towed, and when I called the company they told me they’d need a few hundred dollars for the fee. I didn’t have a few hundred dollars. So I told them when I got paid next and that I’d call back then.

It was a huge pain in the #$! for those days. It was the rainy season, and I wound up walking to work, adding another six miles or so a day to my imaginary pedometer. It was my own fault that I’d been towed, really, and I spent more than a couple hours ruing myself."

People do things without thinking of the consequences.

How do we stop that?

I have a friend that likes to gamble.

I went with her to a bingo parlor a few weeks ago. She was almost desparate to go and did not want to go alone. I had no plans so said sure.

The woman just kept spending and spending. I know for a fact that she is constantly late on her rent. She rents from a friend of mine.

I made my initial "investment" back and didn't spend any more. She was in the hole for at least at a minimum 100 bucks!

I know others like this. Go to the casino an hour or so away. Had to turn in their car cuz they could not afford it.

They want to get ahead via these ways that are only making others rich. Just stay home, and save your pennies!

I don't know how many nieces and nephews i have, but all are doing well.

Some went to college and some are in the trades. Doing well in the trades - master electircians and IT type of jobs. College - engineers and scientists and teachers. It does help if the parents set a good example.

As a second generation American - there are so many ways to be successful here in the states.

But then we have all these drugs that are also making an impact and the consumer driven environment that makes people spend spend spend

I had been thinking about this subject lately since i started a page for my town several years ago. So many people need help - food, clothing, money. But then i can see the things that they do that holds them back. Too many kids at a young age is one. No husband and wife households etc. So many things...
