It occurs to me that the run on supermarkets will have some temporary effects down the line.

In my area, the big food bank as well as some smaller food pantries get donations from supermarkets, say bread that's close to end of sale date. (other things, too, but that's an example) If bread and other foods are flying off the supermarket shelves, it won't be going to the food pantry.

(I know food banks do purchase food, so perhaps that can make up the gap.)

(And now that I think of it, the bakery outlet stores may have trouble getting stock for a while, as will salvage stores, though I suspect there's still a good supply of dented cans out there.)
strangely our monthly food bank truck delivery was sparsely attended. I didn't help since i was still sick

My sibling said they had so much meat leftover and they had to take it home. Steaks, chicken, fish - a ton of stuff. Meanwhile the people are at the stores hoarding. No questions asked to qualify. Just drive up and we put the items in your vehicle. Or walk up with your cart and cart it off.

Yep. You can still get drive-thru, delivery, and curbside pickup.

FUNNY THING.....

Today for lunch TWELVE members of my family went out to eat at the Chinese restaurant to celebrate my BIL's 51st birthday. My BIL who DIED ten years ago and a friend saved his life with CPR on the floor of Mc Donalds. He has a defibrillator. AND my other sister and nephew who are diabetics. Everyone else can get sick or carry the virus, too. (Chinese has nothing to do with it, I just mention it because you're very likely to be sharing food and plates at a Chinese restaurant.)

My sister thought this was an improvement over her original plan to have SIXTEEN people meet at a Chinese BUFFET restaurant down in Springfield, which has two cases of the virus.

I did not go, and my sister was understanding, but very disappointed (WHAT?!)

My sister who planned this surprise lunch for her husband is a school bus attendant, and schools are closed for two weeks starting Tuesday. So in addition to all my sisters and I talking about this and sharing information on facebook (including my sister in London), she KNOWS this is serious because the schools are closing, and she's a bus aide. I explained to her last week that her husband's heart problems and her diabetic son are at high risk. The schools were going to close Tuesday, so my sister went to that restaurant knowing she'd be getting on the school bus on Monday. Kids aren't getting the virus, but they are likely able to carry it on their persons.

Shortly after the lunch, the city also cancelled school for Monday.

And then the the governor shut down all restaurants and bars, LOL

AND...I'm getting long, here, lol

I was standing on my porch this afternoon, thinking about whether I'd skip voting on Tuesday, when I got to talking to my neighbor, Marilyn (she was on her own porch, lol) and she was telling me about all the shopping she's been doing for the last three days, and the three restaurants she went to. "I'm not worried about this virus....I haven't had the flu in YEARS!" And I think she's 70 years old.

MARILYN IS THE SCHOOL BUS DRIVER. My sister is the aide on her bus. At this point, school had not yet been cancelled for Monday! So here's my sister and Marilyn, all over the place maybe picking up the virus to give to each other and sprinkle it all over the kids.

And here is the punchline.......Marilyn is the voting place worker who always hands me my ballot and pen. !!! So, I am NOT voting on Tuesday, LOL The ballot is Bernie/Biden, Illinois will go to Biden so my vote won't matter either way. Others are "People Who Always Win", and uncontested. Also a vote on whether to raise sales tax to pay to restore the still in use historic courthouse downtown. I'd vote yes, but this town votes no on everything.

ALSO....during the week I pick up my diabetic nephew from his bakery job downtown and give him a ride home. My sister is on the bus at 3 when he gets done, so otherwise he has to wait 40 minutes. I was wary of picking him up on Monday, since he works with people all day and had been at the restaurant.

But now school is cancelled so I don't have to pick him up.

Sheesh.......Chinese restaurant, voting, driving my nephew...........I'M DODGING BULLETS LEFT AND RIGHT!!!

Sure is. My son is off from school yet I am being called into work next week. I do not have go-to childcare. My friends that have kids work and have their kids in a daycare. Daycares do not just pick up children for a short period-- at least not the good ones in my area. I'm irked.

Not me so far, but

I just read an article concerning the upcoming San Antonio Texas Fiesta activities

One big thing they do is hand out medals. All sorts of companines, groups etc have these made and people try to see how many they can get. They wear sashes like the girl scouts and pin all the medals on there. Penny has seen this

Well it appears that the medals are all made in China! And due to the epidemic, factories are closed and no medals.

Isn't this a shame. Why can't we do this here in our country? According to the article, no one makes them.

I think what that really means is that no one makes them at the cost we are willing to pay.

Sad isn't it. That we prefer probably slave labor to paying our own people a decent wage!
