I saw a recipe for beer bread. I guess beer has yeast in it? You guys are proving me right. I said there's no flour or yeast because so many are pulling out their bread machines they haven't used in years. lol Go for it. Wish i still had mine!

There isn't yeast in the stores around here, but thankfully several years ago I stocked up on some 1-pound sealed packages when a friend was downsizing her food storage due to moving.

I opened a package recently that expired in 2003, but it worked great. I filled my fridge container then gave the rest to a friend.

I also have a supply of frozen yeast which has worked fine. Fortunately I have not heard of any beer shortages so we are good there.

I have been omitting the yeast from my pizza dough recipe - it just gives it a thinner, more crispy texture to the crust - which is fine by me.

Has anyone seen Erin's blog post about yeast substitutes? There are also substitutes for broth, milk, vanilla extract and other things. Pretty handy right now.
