According to the allergist I am not allergic to any thing. True I don’t react to low pollen counts but I sure do when it is extremely high such as today.

Very little is getting done today.

Penny, good for you for taking it easy today. I hope you feel all better very soon.

Good morning all

I am dragging

All this water stuff is a pain. The COD got up early and fixed it sort of. Found another very very minor leak so has to replace a valve.

He is getting up in age though - he didn't want my brother to help so it took him hours. Cutting and recutting. measuring and re measuring but still having to cut - weird.

ugh i feel sleepy. maybe will take a nap.

I cut up a mango yesterday, they were on sale last week and since we have never had them before decided that would be the best time to purchase. Well it wasn't what I would call ripe, and the remaining "red mangos" are sitting on my table to try and ripen. How do you tell when a mango is ripe? Any hints on how to ripen them quickly?
I've found that mangoes are best when they are soft to the touch ... but not so soft as to be mushy. I've heard you can put them in a paper bag for a couple of days at room temperature to help them ripen faster. (Keep them at room temp anyway until you cut them.)

We like to cut them into chunks, then combine them with a can of pineapple chunks. The juice gives them a nice flavor.

And glad to hear you're doing OK after your shot!

Another day of off-and-on heavy rain, so mostly puttering around the house. I did get out yesterday to weed the front garden before the rains hit, so at least that won't be a jungle. Our neighbor finally came to get the large houseplant, so that's resolved.

Dinner will be ham & corn chowder, which I will need to start pretty soon.

Good afternoon, frugal friends. DH and I have been doing household chores, including a trip to the grocery store for some major shopping. We spent $146, which is huge for us, but did a lot of stocking up. We found some excellent deals on clearance -- Italian-made pasta for $1.48 a pound was one -- and had some really good store coupons for things like apples, fig bars, and almond milk that we buy every week.

While we were at the grocery store, I bought a Visa gift card to put my accumulated pocket money on. Where I work, it's nearly impossible to spend cash. Everything is set up to take cards, and once in a while I really want a bag of popcorn or a soda.

This morning I opened up the new flea collars for the dogs and did the trick of turning two collars into three by constructing a third collar out of the cut-off ends of the first two. The collars are the right size but are still way too long for the two younger dogs, so I punch holes in the cut off pieces, sew them together with nylon twine and then wrap the ends with duct tape. It makes a slightly loose collar that slides on and off for the oldest dog. She is intolerant of anyone fiddling with the buckle on her collar, so this works out great for her.

Off to do more laundry, and I have to cut DH's hair today. I trimmed my bangs and am trying to hold out until after the second vaccine when I can get a professional haircut.

Clem, I hope your plumbing troubles get better, and everyone has a peaceful day.

Bonne apres midi toute le monde!

I just got the dishwasher unloaded, loaded and running. Next up? Cleaning the counter-tops and maybe trying to organize my spice bin. It's gotten a bit out of sorts.

I made my creamy chicken and rice soup on Friday for supper. It was good but was so thick it was more of a stew. I wanted it more "soupy" so I added in the rest of the chicken broth I got from my cooking of the bones and skin. Now it is perfect! That will be supper tonight.

Like Jackie, we are on the same storm path. We haven't started getting any rain yet but snow is predicted for overnight and a few days this week. I don't have a spring/fall/winter wardrobe so I am already set. The coat is still in the closet so I'll be ready if it does snow.

Once the dishes are done, I want to make a pan of chewy brownies. I found an interesting recipe that uses a tablespoon of cornstarch to help make them chewy. I usually just make any old kind but I want to try chewy ones!

Can't think of anything special this week. Same old, same old.

That's the skinny around here!

Just got back from our oldest granddaughter's soccer game. They lost by a lot..but were playing the top team.
It is nice that they can play again!
No plans for the rest of the day. Kind of tired from all the yard work.
