Anyone Interested in A Pantry Challenge for the Month

Post by Jackielou »

Just wondered if anyone was interested in a Pantry Challenge for the month of February? I noticed that Janet and Momof2Still do this in Janet's 2019 frugal challenge and I don't want to take away from them. I, myself need something like this as my freezers have become unwieldly, stuffed to the gills with food that needs using.

The challenge to myself for this month is to use up as much as possible in the fridge freezer over the next week, and then move on to the meat freezer for the rest of the month. Things need to be used up as much as possible over the next while.

I will inventory everything and put it on a list to be posted later. Hopefully you all can keep me going on this challenge and give me a few ideas on how to use grocery items up.

No inventory as of yet, but I am using up.

Yesterday was a package of leftover ham and today will be a package of leftover pork. I am also going to try and use up the phyllo pastry today as well. Which means I better pull it out to thaw and bring up those easy recipes that I found.

Before I listed this as a challenge to myself I had pulled out the ham bones and made two containers of ham broth. While the containers take up more room than the bones did, they are much easier to use now.

I would love to join this challenge Jackie but I'm not stocked up on too much right now, other than canned tomato products and jarred spaghetti sauce - I have TONS of those.

I am thinking that this could be a good challenge every 4 months or so. Got to keep the stock moving. Yours truly forgets to do that and needs to be reminded.

I think it is a great challenge. I do need it. I am starting on my chest freezer. It got stocked up high over the holidays. A lot of special sales then. This is mostly meat. I have a family package of skinless, boneless chicken breasts thawing. Start on them tomorrow night. First week of the month was using up a 5lb roll of ground beef from the freezer. That made chili, stir fry, Mexican ground beef and hamburgers twice. Last night and tonight will not be freezer meat. The plan on the chicken will be Cajun chicken, Mexican chicken, chicken and broccoli, and one other. Then a fish night.
