Daily Check-in January 10, 2020

Post by alliesmama4 »

Good morning. I can hear the gentle pitter patter of rain on my roof and windows. We have a mild temp of ( 51 F) (10.55 C). It will get warmer as the day goes on up to ( 59 F) (15 C). As the day progresses we are expecting monsoon rain. We are in the 3 to 4 inch category. Hard to believe this is January. We are expecting massive flooding. I hope this does not turn out to be a sign of what spring will be like. We had prolonged flooding in Spring last year and it affected farming extensively. Today when I was driving in to town I saw a field of dried corn from last year. It was only about half the height of what corn should be plus this is January it should not even be in the field.

I saw the spinal specialist yesterday. After reviewing my medical history he said, "you have a hell of a lot wrong with you but you look good especially for 74."...lol. He told me my only option is extensive back surgery. I have multiple areas of spinal stenosis ( the opening where the spinal cord goes through the spine is narrowing) and pinched nerves as well as a scoliosis. However since I had a systemic cortisone shot that has reduced my pain to almost 0 I do not need surgery at this time. He said, "you are the one who will decide when you want surgery." He suggested physical therapy but since that is what I did for a living he has agreed to let me do my exercises at home. When the time comes I am going to seek a second opinion before doing any surgery.

I was wiped out when I came home since I had to drive myself to St. Louis due to my aide is still off sick. I had a very long wait with more x-rays at the Drs office. Then drove home and had to stop at Petco to pick up Teddi's dog food and then stopped to put gas in my car. When I arrived home I let Teddi out of his crate and we took a walk around the yard since he had been in his crate for so long. I walked and he ran lol. Barely got back in the house and had a call from my pharmacy that my RX was ready. That was good since it was not suppose to be ready until today after 2:00 PM when we are expecting monsoon rains.

I asked Teddi if he would like to go for a ride, he stood up on his back legs and did his little happy dance. He then swirled in joyful circles all the way out to the car.lol Drove back in to town. While there I went grocery shopping since they had some good bargains. Came home and ate a late lunch/early dinner and fell asleep on the couch around 4:00 PM. Did not wake up until 11:00 PM. Yikes will be awake all night I guess. Bummer!

Weather wise glad I am home for the duration. We are expecting 3 to 4 inches of rain today with extensive flash flooding and then tomorrow a possibility of severe storms and the cherry on the sundae is slushy snow late Saturday. Got to love the weather in the Midwest or get out. I bought a box of premade logs at the grocery store. They will burn for 4 hours. I thought it would be nice to have a fire going today and tomorrow. The heat is not that great from them but a nice little fire will make it more cheerful with the overcast sky and rain. I love when it rains so I will enjoy the rain with a nice fire in the fireplace. A good time to read and sip a nice cup of tea with Teddi all snuggled down on a pillow beside me in my recliner.

Keeping all in my prayers for their various needs and concerns.

Have a good and frugal day everyone.

My friends father suffers from the same ailment. He is going to under go surgery even though at 84, with high blood pressure, diabetes, and 2 previous back surgeries done the doctors told him there could be problems. He says he just can't live with the pain anymore.

Good morning fellow frugalites,

Man, I wish we had the temperatures of Janet here. I would even take the rain (provided there was no snow). Coldest morning so far of the winter here. It is -26 C and with the chill of the blowing wind feels like -38 C. I do believe that I will be staying inside today where it is nice and warm.

Oldest DS says things are calming down a bit, when we texted back and forth last night (congratulate me on not having to hear his voice, but I will need to today). He said yesterday was a good day. I am very glad about that. He needs some good days.

I got all the results of my various tests yesterday. Things seem to have gotten back to normal (or at least normal for moi). My thyroid readings are back up, and there was no blood in my urine this time (probably a slight infection). I did just have to mention that I have been having muscle pain in my thighs over the past while so it was off for another blood test, and the making of another appointment later this month. My doctor is nothing if not thorough.

Hubby and I will hopefully be heading out for our dinner date tonight (really keeping my fingers crossed that it warms up) in celebration of our 44th Wedding Anniversary. Can not believe it has been 44 years. Time does really pass by quickly. So this probably will not be the most frugal of days. I will however be able to use a coupon at the eating establishment I have chosen cutting the cost down slightly.

Other frugal happenings here on the old homestead will be the usual, and the dinner out will be the only real spending of the day. I have been working on the knit fabric and plan on pulling some more out to ready to make into the rug. I guess today it will be a work on getting the sewing/craft room tidied up. My extra cleaning job for today.

Decluttering will be taking place as well. Anything that I can not recycle into something useful or can not be donated is heading for the trash can. I am hoping to add to the articles already destined for the second hand store today.

Today I am grateful that unlike some people I am safe and warm inside, and really wish that all people had that.

Everybody have a great day. Take care.

Years ago my brother had a similar problem and he was on bed rest for 6 weeks. They only gave him a 30% chance of walking again. He was in surgery 4 hours for microsurgery. They gave him a pain shot in recovery. He did not need anymore after that. He got up the next day, walked around with a walker, and the next day he went home without a walker. He felt like he had a new lease on life. One of the Drs I worked with, from the Mayo clinic, did the surgery. I think I will consult with him or one of the other Drs in his practice when the time comes.

Happy anniversary Jackie and Harvey. Hope you are able to get out and enjoy the evening.

Good Morning,
Janet, that's a lot of activity for you. Take care.

Jackie, Congratulations on 44 years of marriage.

I actually got some thing done yesterday. I confirmed with the rental car company about when my car wil be going in for repairs and called the apt. complex office to put in a work order to have a pot light in my kitchen replaced. I hate making phone calls. I also moved 2 bins to the garage and threw out some cardboard boxes I had let lie around.

My blood sugar is a bit out of whack, so going to make an effort to bring it down. I think, for me, the problem is the lack of activity/exercise. My eating habits have not really changed. But I do need to watch it too.

Have a great day,
Maggie
