Daily Check-In, Sept. 9, 2019

Post by floridacatlover » Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:15 am

Good morning all.

I’m up early and will go to mom’s house to cut the back yard. Not really looking forward to it. I’ve learned from experience not to go too early because of the dew so will get there about 9:30.

Did you all see how hard Hurricane Dorian hit Atlantic Canada? Amazing that it held so much strength that far north with 75-100 mph winds. As of this morning 211,000 without power in Nova Scotia. I read the place I stayed in Prince Edward Island (Summerside) is also without power and the entrance I used (Brackley Beach) to get to PEI National Park is closed because of trees down. “My” area of NB was also hit somewhat with flooded streets in Moncton and 60 boats smashed together in a marina in Shediac.

Dorothea Benton Frank has died at only age 67. I saw it yesterday in the NYT. I know some of you have read her books. I read one last year.

I started a new book by Louise Penny, the first in the series of Inspector Gamache mysteries. It is set in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, the mostly English-speaking area near the Vermont border. My mom and dad went there on their honeymoon.

Have a good day.

Good Morning everyone,

We are back to high, summer-like temperatures after a week of very comfortable temps. I am ready for a cool down.

I have several things I want to accomplish today, grocery shopping, finishing up Mom's throw quilt, etc. I need to get hopping.

I got a letter over the weekend that the church does not have enough evidence to decide if I should be granted an annulment. I need to draft more people willing to answer questions (by letter) as witnesses. I am drafting a letter to my former FIL. I sent an email to a friend of Exs asking if he would be willing and have no answer so far. Ugh, that is the worst.

Have a great day,
Maggie

Good morning all,

I was able to give a stranger a compliment yesterday. I told a woman that her hair was lovely. She immediately shared how happy she was that she had stayed natural and I was able to say the gray accents looked beautiful on her. And they did. Saying nice things to other people is good. Random acts of kindness are good things. It lifts the heart. It costs nothing to do and the results are priceless.

I was able to get several excellent pieces of beef on sale at Winn-Dixie yesterday. Along with the pound of fresh salmon and fresh vegetables, I was able to use the $5 off coupon. We had the fish last night and tonight we will have a small beef roast cooked in the slow cooker on my outside kitchen area. I will be adding soaked dry beans to maximize the cooking heat. It feels good to feel frugal.

Today will be a stay home day. I pushed my knee this weekend with yard work and I am so pleased that after treatment last night with ultrasound and then overnight wrapping, it is ok this morning. I will continue my yard work today as I can.

I got a strange email from old dance partner yesterday. So I called him. He had expected me to call him every day although he told me several months ago not to. I asked him how he was feeling and he said he was having these headaches every day and was dizzy off and on. The ENT guy had ordered a balance test which he completed on Friday. They ask you to answer simple questions during the process and he felt he didn't do well at that. I got off the phone and hubs said "he has a brain tumor." Hubs has an estimated IQ of 185, so I listen to him when he says things like that. I looked up the symptoms he described and it was a match. I called him back and strongly urged him to contact his GP and describe all his symptoms. I did not use the word brain tumor. Hubs said I was as forceful as I could be.

Today, I am grateful for nice weather and the opportunity to enjoy my garden. Have a good day everyone.

Hi Florida Cat I thought of you when I saw that the hurricane was so strong in Canada and was glad you had made your trip before things got so bad.. Sad that storm has done so much damage and changed so many lives.

Thanks for the tip on the book. I plan on settling down this winter and get more in to reading and love a good mystery story.
