This gingerbread play dough makes a great gift for kids and stressed out adults. It smells just like gingerbread cookies, and only requires five minutes of stove time.
Here’s my easy peasy recipe. I’ve included a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, for your convenience.
Gingerbread Play Dough
Makes 2 cups (approx.)
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup water
1/4 cup salt
2 tbsp cream of tartar
1.5 tbsp gingerbread spice (here’s how to make your own)
1 tbsp vegetable oil (canola, olive oil, etc.)
What You Do:
Measure the dry ingredients into a saucepan, and stir well to combine.
Measure the water and oil into a liquid measuring cup.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients over medium heat.
Stir continually until the mixture thickens and forms a ball. This should take about five minutes. You’ll know it’s done, when the play dough is no longer sticky.
Turn the dough out onto a plate or non-stick surface, and allow it to cool 10-15 minutes.
Then, knead it until it has a smooth, consistent texture.
Store the play dough in an air-tight container, when not in use. It fits well in a pint-size jar, and should keep for a few weeks.
To gift, just add a ribbon, gingerbread man cookie cutter and tag. Here a link to the tags that I used.
