Gingerbread Play Dough Recipe

This gingerbread play dough smells just like a freshly-baked batch of gingerbread cookies, and makes a great gift for kids and grown-ups alike.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup water
1/4 cup salt
2 tbsp cream of tartar
1.5 tbsp gingerbread spice (here’s how to make your own)
1 tbsp vegetable oil (canola, oil oil, etc.)


Mix the dry ingredients together in a saucepan.

Measure the wet ingredients into a liquid measuring cup.

Place the pan on the stove, over medium heat, and stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.

Continue stirring, until the dough comes together, and a ball forms. The play dough is done when it’s no longer sticky. (This takes approximately five minutes.).

Transfer your play dough to a non-stick surface, and allow it to cool.

Then, knead it until it’s smooth, and store in an air-tight container.


This play dough has a shelf life of around three weeks.
