How to Clean a Shower Curtain

Shower curtains tend to be treated as disposable items these days, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The next time your shower curtain gets a bit mildewy, just follow these simple steps to clean it.

How to Clean a Shower Curtain

What You’ll Need:

A washing machine
White vinegar
Laundry detergent
Towels

What You Do:

Fill your washing machine with warm water (use the small load setting). Then, add laundry detergent and one cup of white vinegar. Stick your shower curtain in, and allow it to soak for several hours (overnight is better).

Wash Shower Curtain with Towels

Toss two towels in with your shower curtain. Then, run the washer through a cycle. The towels will help to scrub the curtain clean, and will also help to keep it from getting in a bind and tearing (important if you’re washing a plastic liner in a top loader).

Inspect your shower curtain to make sure all of the mildew is gone. If you still see stained areas, hand scrub them. Then, run your curtain through a second cycle. Once your curtain is clean, hang it back up, and allow it to air dry.
