Alright guys, I’ve been holding out on you. Because I got a new sofa last summer, and I haven’t even shown it to you yet. See that gorgeous leather Chesterfield sofa in my living room? It retails for over $3,000 at Ethan Allen, but we got it for just $50 at a yard sale. I still can’t believe it.
We had just gone to the last yard sale on our list when we happened upon an unadvertised sale. So, we stopped; and there was the sofa of my dreams, just waiting to come home with me.
I really wanted to buy a new sofa, when we moved back in after all the tree work, but money-wise it was out of the question. So, we sold our existing sofa set at a yard sale for $50, and I bought this khaki twill sofa for $50.
Basically, it was a way for us to get something different, without spending any money. And that’s just what we needed at the time. We kept this sofa for six and a half years, and would have continued to use it, had we not had our beyond-lucky yard sale find.
Because $50 for this sofa is just insane. And this is the exact style of sofa that I wanted to buy seven years ago.
So glad we decided to wait because after selling the twill sofa for $30, we only have $20 in this one.
How Many Sofas Have You Owned?
This is our third sofa in 17 years. I saved up and bought a brand new sofa and love seat after college. Then, we had the twill sofa, and now we have this leather one.
BEAUTIFUL! What a wonderful find!
Erin, what a fantastic bargain. it is beautiful and looks like it is in excellent condition. You found the deal of the lifetime.
What a great deal! Did they say why they were selling it? Was it a very upscale home? (I’m thinking they have lots of money and just wanted a new sofa so were letting this one go.) Congrats.
It wasn’t a particularly upscale house, but I got the impression that they redecorated a lot. They were asking $100, which I was ready to jump on, but my husband, who was on the fence, asked if they’d take $50, if it hadn’t sold by the end of the day. They replied that they’d take $50 right then. Score!
My husband wasn’t sold on Chesterfields, like I was, because he was afraid the lower back would make them less comfortable, so that $50 price tag got me over that hurdle, and it turns out he loves the way it sits, so everyone’s happy.
