Combine taco seasoning and pretzels and you get taco pretzels, a wonderfully addictive snack that’s perfect for parties, game day and every day munching. And since they take all of two minutes to make, this isn’t one of those recipes that you have to save for a day when you’re feeling ambitious. Make a batch, and you’ll be hooked.
Taco Pretzel Recipe
Ingredients
1 (15-16 oz.) bag of pretzels
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3 Tbsp taco seasoning mix. Use one store-bought packet, or try my homemade taco seasoning mix.
What You Do:
Mix the cooking oil and taco seasoning together in a bowl. In the interest of keeping these healthy, we’re using half as much oil as most recipes of this type call for. It’s just enough to get the taco seasoning to stick to the pretzels.
Pour the pretzels into a gallon freezer bag. Add the taco seasoning mixture. Then, seal the bag, and shake to coat the pretzels.
This is what they should look like, when you’re done.
Spread the pretzels out on a cookie sheet, and allow them to dry. They’ll be less messy this way. If you’re in a hurry, you can speed up the process by placing them in a 250 degree oven for 20-30 minutes. Stir them periodically to prevent burning and ensure even drying.
When the pretzels are done, pour them in a big bowl, and get to munching. Taco pretzels are good on their own, or dipped in ranch dip, guacamole or queso.
And they store well, too. Just put them back in the pretzel bag, and enjoy them throughout the week.
Recipe Variations
Like spicy foods? Add extra chili powder to crank up the heat.
Need a low-sodium or no-sodium version? Use unsalted pretzels and homemade taco seasoning mix, with the salt omitted.
Swap out the pretzels with oyster crackers or snack mix for a whole new taste and texture.
